NA to take charge of PLAs, arms containers from today

KATHMANDU: A joint meeting of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) and senior leaders of major political parties has decided to handover all the Maoist combatants, arms container, security and management of all the Maoists cantonments to the government from today.

er decision to handover the armies and arms to the government by April 12 informed AISC member and Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun.

As per the decision, the NA will take over all the 15 Maoist cantonments by evening today and AISC officials will handover all the arms to the NA by evening today.

Nepali Congress leader and AISC member Ram Sharan Mahat said the entire responsibility was handed over to NA considering the tensions that surfaced in some cantonments on Tuesday raising security threats to AISC officials.

Mahat further added that the Wednesday’s meeting will finalize the selection committee to carry out integration selection committee to pick fighters for integration and determine their ranking among other issues.

Pun claimed that the decision was breakthrough in the peace process and expressed confidence that it will provide basis to further talks on resolving contentions seen the constitution writing process.
