NA team in Chitwan for starting ex-PLA selection process

KATHMANDU: A squad of Nepal Army (NA) arrived in Chitwan last night to expedite ahead the selection process of ex-Maoist combatants opting for army integration.

The team comprising 14 army personnel including three senior officials is scheduled to takea ahead the process to select ex-fighters living in Chitwan-based Shaktikhor cantonment.

The team is said to make logistic arrangement to put forward the process.

The process will move ahead after the arrival of major Generals, Baldev Raj Mahat and Surendra Bahadur KC, and Lieutenant Colonel Prakash KC at 10.30 AM today, said Battalion Commander of Shumsher Dal Battalion, Bharatpur, Jotendra Mahat.

The senior army officials are set to come back Kathmandu today after putting the process forward.

Of total 3,123 ex-combatants languishing in seven main cantonments after opting for integration, 625 are in the third division in Shaktikhor, Chitwan.

The team is carrying forward the process in line with the directive of the centre. The selection process will take place in the cantonment and army battalion in Bharatpur.

It is noted that the issues including the formation of general directorate, citizenship and age, education, ranking and service tenure set forth during UNMIN verification have yet to be settled.

Nepal Army had entered the ex-Maoist combatants’ cantonments on April 10 as per the political decision.

Ex-fighters have been living in Shaktikhor cantonment along with a Nepal Army company headed by Major Shanker Thapa RSS
