Mother, daughter face murder attempt in Jhapa

KATHMANDU: An unidentified group of people barged into a house here last night and attacked a mother and her eight-year-old daughter, leaving them injured. According to the District Police Office Jhapa, the gang entered the house at Prashansa Tole of Mechinagar municipality-10, Jhapa and attacked Arati Chauhan Budhathoki, 43, and her daughter Arpana. Only three women—Arati, her daughter Arpana and mother-in-law–were living in the house.
The incident came to the notice of neighbours when they heard the girl desperately calling for help, according to their neighbor Gokul Humagain. The mother and daughter were in the same room while Arati’s mother-in-law suffering from paralysis was in the next room of the one-storey cemented house when the incident happened.
Aarati who was hacked into her head has been taken to the Birtamod-based B & C Hospital while the daughter who sustained minor injuries has been kept at the Area Police Office, Dhulabari for immediate protection.
Arati’s husband is in the United Arab Emirates in course of a foreign employment. The house next to their home is vacant and other houses are a bit far. Neighbours found Arpana in the unconscious condition in a pool of blood while the daughter was crying for help and the mother-in-law was in her bed.
The Dhulabari Area Police Office was informed about the incident and reached the site shortly. According to office chief and Superintendent of Police Dinesh Mainali said the investigations into the case are underway and a search has been launched.
