Most schools in Surkhet still lack toilets

SURKHET: There are still no toilets in around 200 community schools in Surkhet district. It is stated in a statistics made public by Water Aid, an international non-government organization.

According to Water Aid, toilet facilities are only available in 330 of 522 community schools in Surkhet. Teachers and students belonging to rest of the schools are still compelled to use open ground as toilet.

Likewise, there are less numbers of girl student-friendly toilets even in the schools with toilet facility. Only 251 schools across the district have such toilets. The average ratio of toilet users is 126.

Though huge amount of money is released from government fund for the construction of toilets every year, its utility has not been visible, commented under-secretary at District Education Office, Bhakta Bahadur Khadka.

Around Rs. 64.6 million has been released to District Education Office for merely the construction of toilets during the past couple of years, he informed, adding that 127 girl friendly and 196 general toilets have been made with the amount. RSS
