Medical college found involved in smuggling

KATHMANDU: A medical college run ambulance has been detained by the police in Biratnagar on Thursday night while it was smuggling medicinal goods that were not cleared by the customs office.

The ambulance belonging to Biratnagar based Nobel College was found to be smuggling microscopes and other surgical equipments worth around four million. Officials involved in the investigations claimed that by smuggling the goods they were evading tax of around two hundred thousands.

The driver and ambulance have been detained by the police after it failed to produce custom clearances for the goods it was carrying.

However the college has denied that it was smuggling the goods and claimed that the administration was delayed in clearing the customs.
