Media urged to give more space to women issues

KATHMANDU: Women leaders associated with different political parties have laid emphasis on more space to the issues of women in media.
At an interaction organised by Inter-Party Women’s Alliance here Friday, they univocally urged the media to incorporate more issues relating to women from various sectors.
On the occasion, Alliance Vice-Chair Sabitra Bhusal suggested that media could help women leaders move ahead. She wondered why there was low visibility of women’s issues in media.
According to her, women representations should be increased at local levels, states and federal parliaments to reach 50 per cent women participation in all three-tier of government.
Similarly, Commissioner at the National Information Commission, Yashoda Timsina, said women politicians should also be aware about the service and facilities given by State to the women. Capacity development is equally important for women leaders, she underscored.
Alliance General Secretary Kalyani Rijal said that the Alliance from the very beginning has been taking initiative to increase women participation in all sectors.
