Maoist won’t compromise on identity-based federalism: Prachanda
KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Unified CPN (Maoist), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has made it clear that the Maoist party would not compromise on identity based federalism.
Receiving a memorandum submitted by Limbuwan Struggle Committee at his residence in Lazimpat this morning, the former prime minister said the Maoist party would never compromise on federalism by weakening the Maoist party’s identity.
A team led by CPN (UML) leader Bijaya Subba had reached Prachanda’s residence to submit the memorandum and demanded to respect people’s right to self-determination and ethnic identity while delineating federal states in the country.
The team has demanded not to give up the stance for 14 federal states which was suggested by the State Restructuring Committee of the Constituent Assembly, Prachanda’s aide Shiva Khakurel said.
Similarly, the team has suggested that the issue of political stability should be taken into consideration while adopting a particular form of governance in the country. RSS
