Maoist, UDMF and NC-UML confrontation on federalism renders meet inconclusive
The meeting could not reach conclusion after all parties did not budge from their stands but blamed each others.
The UCPN-Maoist and the UDMF took the stand that the decision on devising of province should be made together with naming and demarcation of province, while the NC and UML stressed that a federal commission could be formed to settle the issues without naming and demarcating the province.
Talking to media persons following the meeting, Vice-President of the Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel, said the disputed issues of federalism would be settled by the federal commission as per the reports of the state restructuring commission, and state restructuring committee of the Constitutional Committee. Similarly, remaining disputes could be settled by the transitional parliament.
Moreover, leader Poudel said the NC and UML proposed to restructure the state based on multiple identities but the Maoists and UDMF rebuffed it.
He accused the Maoists and UDMF of obstructing agreement though many issues of constitution writing were settled.
Similarly, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said the parties discussed how they could promulgate constitution by May 27.
Chairman of the Sadbhavana party Rajendra Mahato also accused the NC and UML of creating hurdles in constitution writing. RSS
