Maoist, NC agree on minimizing federal provinces

KATHMANDU: UCPN (Maoist) and Nepali Congress (NC) have agreed to minimize the number of provinces while restructuring the nation.

Leaders of both parties reached such an understanding during a meeting held at Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal’s house in the capital on Saturday.

However the meeting failed to reach understanding on whether to adopt ethnicity as the basis of the provinces and on the basis to be adopted for naming the provinces.

” Understanding has been reached to minimize the number of states while restructuring the state,” NC Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel said after the meeting.

Maoist secretary Post Bahadur Bogati, informed that NC had been positive towards resolving the issues and added that understanding reached between them will be discussed with others.

The meeting was participated by senior leaders of both parties including the Prime Minister.
