Maoist demand presence in PLA selection committee

KATHMANDU: Sunday’s meeting of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) remained inconclusive on finalizing the action plan presented by its Secretariat.

Today’s meeting discussed the modality, process and standards to be adopted for integrating the PLA combatants into Nepal Army and was concluded with an understanding to resume the discussion in Monday’s meeting informed AISC member and UML member Bhim Rawal after the meeting.

A highly placed source claimed the the the meeting remained inconclusive after the Maoist’ demanded of representation in the selection committee that will select PLA combatants for integrating into NA.

AISC members representing the Nepali Congress and UML denied to entertain the Maoists demand and remained firm on their stance that the NA will do the selection on the basis of its own standards and procedures informed the source.

Following the disagreements, the meeting was called off till tomorrow said the source. Two days earlier the AISC had rolled out plans to provide another chance to the remaining PLAs for opting between rehabilitation packages, voluntary retirement and integration.

Along with that AISC members had agreed to vacate all the PLA cantonments by April 13 and start the integration process. It had asked the secretariat to come up with a detail action plan for carrying out the integration of the PLAs including modality, standards and procedures to be adopted during the integration process.
