Man attempting to extort money arrested
KATHMANDU: Police here have arrested a man for attempting to extort money from a woman by threatening to kill her daughter if he would not get Rs 2 million paid.
According to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu’s Spokesperson Hobindra Bogati, police on Tuesday arrested Santosh Kandel of Benighat-Rorang Rural Municipality-5 in Dhading, who is currently staying at Naya Bazar in Kathmandu from Balaju.
Kandel had sent a letter to a woman on August 30, demanding a hefty Rs 2 million and had threatened her that if she fails to avail the money, he would kill her daughter and blast a bomb at her house.
The woman was asked to bring the money nearby Balaju bridge on September 3. A team of police in civil dress carrying counterfeit currencies nabbed Kandel.
Kandel is leant to terrorize people and extort money from them by claiming to be a member of Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party.
