Major parties agree to form transitional commissions

KATHMANDU, March 30: The three major political parties have today agreed to form commissions for Disappearances and Truth and Reconciliation immediately.

The meeting held at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction at Singha Durbar today, has formed a three-member taskforce to work out concept and procedures of the Commissions.

Khimlal Devkota of the UCPN-Maoist, Ramesh Lekhak of the Nepali Congress and Agni Kharel of the CPN-UML are members of the taskforce.

Vice-president of NC, Ram Chandra Poudel said that agreement to form the high-level Commission for Truth and Reconciliation, forming the commission as per the political consensus, with representations of former judges of the Supreme Court, was made in the meeting.

The meeting also decided to give pardon on the basis of its nature with the consent of victimized family and action on other grave crimes, he said.

Similarly, CPN-UML Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam said that consensus was forged to work out the Truth and Reconciliation Bill as per Nepalese law and international laws with Nepal as a party.

Likewise, Khimlal Devkota of the UCPN-Maoist stated that an agreement was made to formulate Commission’s procedures with provisions to carry out investigation of the truth first and only then deciding to give pardon or not as per the nature of the incidents. RSS
