Mahat comes up with oft-repeated refrain
KATHMANDU: Congress leader Ram Sharan Mahat has come up with refrain that “iit all depends on the Maoists whether they want to conclude the peace process and complete the constitution drafting process or not”,
He has said this while the UCPN-Maoist is racked by ideological consideration and hence not expected to settle for the political system not much different than in the past and something that has stalled the constitution drafting since long. “The ball lies in the Maoist’s court now.
It is up to them to decide whether they want constitution drafted on time”, he said. However, Mahat never said what his party will do if the Maoists do not support the constitution drafting process.
That is because there is nothing that the Congress can do. Mahat also opined that the parties need to keep aside their interests in resolving
the contentious issues of state restructuring and federalism. He however, warned that as is being advocated by Maoists for establishing states based on communal ground, will eventually disintegrate the country.
“At best only six states can our economy withstand. We cannot slash the country like vegetables”, he also claimed.
