Mahara calls on media to be fair
POKHARA: An influential Maoist leader on Saturday called on journalists to be fair minded and just. Standing Committee member of the UCPN-Maoist, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, while speaking at a program here called pres personals to be professional.
Inaugurating the annual general meeting of the Human Rights Journalists’ Association (HURJA) here on Saturday, leader Mahara said some rogues were creating violence taking advantage of transition.
On the occasion, he claimed that the army integration would conclude before April 12 which would help accelerate the constitution writing.
At the programme presided over by SURJA Chairman Krishna Anjan, central member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Rudra Bhatta, central Vice-Chairman of Nepal Press Union, Gangadhar Parajuli and Chairman of Independent Journalists’ Association, Krishna Prasad Bastola, expressed views demanding security to the journalists.
Meanwhile, the HURJA has set up a human rights journalism award to confer on the journalists who help to protect and promote human rights through journalism.
HURJA Chairman Anjan informed the programme that Rs 25,000 was collected for setting up a revolving fund for the award. RSS
