Karki elected NBA chairperson
In a neck and neck competition for the presidency of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) between the Democratic and the Progressive alliance, Hari Krishna Karki, a candidate from the progressive alliance close to UCPN (Maoist) and CPN (UML), has been elected as the chairperson of NBA.
Karki has won the presidency of the NBA, an umbrella of the lawyers across the country, defeating his nearest rival Sher Bahadur KC with 243 votes.
While the chairperson has been elected from the progressive alliance, Sunil Kumar Pokhrel, candidate from the democratic panel, has been elected for the general secretary. He has defeated Dinmani Pokhrel from the Progressive panel. Likewise, the democratic panel has secured the post of one vice-chairperson, treasurer and five executive members. The left-leaning progressive alliance has won the posts of Chairperson, four Vice-chairpersons and four executive members.
