Japan to assist in modernizing electoral system
In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha led the Nepal side while Foreign Minister of Japan Koichiro Gemba headed the Japan side.
Also present in the meeting were Secretaries at the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Nepal to Japan, Madan Kumar Bhattarai and 11 Japanese delegates.
An agreement was signed on the grant assistance of Rs. 259 million that the Japan government is providing to Nepal for the increase of food production in Nepal.
On the occasion, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Kunio Takahasi and Nepal government’s Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota signed the agreement in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs of both the countries.
At the meeting, the Japan government has announced to provide with various equipment support to the Election Commission for the management of voters’ ID cards.
In an informal meeting with Japanese side earlier, it was agreed to ask for support from the Japan government for the construction of 200 Megawatt Upper Seti hydel project, operation of Metro Railway in Kathmandu and Mid-hill Highway, said Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Japan’s Foreign Minister Gemba is on a two-day official visit to Nepal. He arrived Kathmandu in the evening yesterday. RSS
