Indigenous lawmakers warn to hit streets
KATHMANDU: The Indigenous Nationalities’ Joint Struggle Committee has warned of protest if the constitution was promulgated without ensuring identity-based federalism.
Speaking at a programme organized at Basantapur in the capital on Thursday, Chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal, Upendra Yadav, said any kind of state except the rights of self- determination with the guarantee of identity, capacity and autonomy would not be accepted.
He urged the Constituent Assembly members of indigenous, Madhes and dalit communities to be united for the guarantee of their rights in new constitution.
On the occasion, Nepali Congress CA member Indra Bahadur Gurung warned that if the constitution was promulgated without ensuring identity-based federalism, the CA members of the indigenous, dalit and Madhes community would not sign but boycott it.
