Hindus celebrating Nagpanchami today

KATHMANDU:  Big fairs have taken place at different parts in the valley including Nagpokhari of Naxal, Taudaha of Kirtipur and Nagdaha of Dhapakhel in Lalitpur today on the occasion of the Nagpanchami festival.

Nepali Hindus mark the festival by pasting pictures of the Nag or serpents above the main gates of their houses. The serpent deities   are offered milk, Dubo grass.
It is believed that there will be happiness and prosperity in houses if Nags are worshipped on the occasion, cultural expert Dr. Bishnu Dahal said.

Similarly, a fair has taken place at the Changunarayan Temple in Bhaktapur since the early morning today on this occasion.

Devotees offer milk, ghee, the Dubo grass, mustard seeds to Changunarayan, a form of Vishnu, the Hindu god of life and protection, in the belief that making these offerings would keep the snakes at bay. RSS
