Hindu scholars, sage demand for Hindu nation
KATHMANDU: Hindu scholars and holy men have demanded mentioning Nepal as a Democratic Hindu Nation in the new constitution.
Scholars, priests and holy men participating in a Dharma Sabha or religious assembly organised by the Hindu Religion Protection Nepal here on Monday said provisions should be enshrined in the new constitution that describe Nepal as the only democratic Hindu nation of the world characterized by the Vedic Sanatana creed, culture and traditions.
The participants of the Assembly also warned of a big conflict ahead in the country if the aspirations of the majority Hindu population were not taken into account by the Constituent Assembly while drawing up the supreme law of the country.
Tulasi Giri Maharaj, the international Mahantha of the Pancha Dasnami Juna Akhada and Swami Chandresh of the Budhanilkantha Ashram, among other religious scholars, underlined the need of protecting the national character of Nepal that is well-protected by Hinduism.
President of the World Hindu Federation, Damodar Gautam, politician Mohan Chandra Adhikari, President of the Save the Hindu Nation Campaign Chakradev Joshi and general secretary of the Janata Party Nepal, Khemnath Acharya also called for restoring Nepal as a democratic Hindu nation in the new constitution.
