Himalayan Viagra ‘Yarshagumba’ collectors increase in Makalu area, Eastern Nepal

SANKHUWASABHA: Collection of Himalayan Viagra ‘Yarshagumba’ is a popular practice not only in the mountains of western Nepal, but also in the eastern part of the country.
This year, a larger number of people have taken permission to collect Yarshagumba in Sankhuwasabha district.
In the first week of the opening of the permission to collect Yarshagumba, ‘The half fungus, half larva’ (caterpillar fungus) herb, 120 Yarshagumba collectors have already taken the permission this year. yarsa
Last year, 117 collectors had taken permission to search Yarshagumba in the Makalu Barun National Park area.
The national park has given the authority of issuing permission card to the Consumer Committees of Buffer Zone.
This year 10 consumer committees of Shankhuwasabha and two of Solukhumbu districts have been authorised to grant permission to the aspiring Yarsha collectors.
The consumer committees have been issuing permission card for collecting Yarshagumba from May 29.
Lakpad Kulung, Ranger of the National Park, said that the permitted collectors had already started collecting Yarshagumba. They could collect Yarshagumba until June 28, he added.
Kulung said that around 1,000 collectors were expected to take permission for collecting Yarshagumba this year.
The National Park is collecting Rs. 1,000 fees from the collectors of the buffer zone area, Rs. 2,000 from other collectors of the district and Rs. 3,000 from the collectors of other districts while allowing them to collect the medicinal herb in the park area.
The Yarshagumba collectors who returned from the field said that they could not collect Yarshagumba as they had expected this year.
“As we reached earlier, we collect some early germinating Yarshagumba but could not wait for late germinating ones,” said Ambar Rai, a Yarshagumba collector from Silichong Rural Municipality-3 Tamku.
