Government pushes democracy to peril: NC President Deuba
MAKWANPUR: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the government of pushing the constitution and democracy to a peril with the arrogance of a two-thirds majority.
Inaugurating the national gathering of the NC district presidents here Tuesday, President Deuba said the government was politicking in constitutional organs and administrative bodies. He urged the district presidents of the party to be united for people and the country by rising above groupism.
According to him, not the leadership change but the cadres’ attitude change was required for democratic culture.
I don’t encourage groupism: leader Poudel
Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel reminded that although Nepali Congress government brought pro-public programmes after the restoration of the democracy, it failed to convince the people resulting in debacle in the elections.
“I don’t encourage groupism,” he said, adding that unity in the party was essential for the country and democracy.
Parliamentary party deputy leader Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar said leaders themselves should be rational to convince that party was united.
Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi and General Secretary Dr Sashank Koirala expressed concern over government’s hostility to the parliamentary democracy and press freedom. They pointed out the need of able and transparent leadership in the party.
