Funeral rites of Dr Devkota performed
KATHMANDU: Last rites of senior neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota was performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Tuesday.
Dr Devkota was given state honours with Deputy Prime Minster and Defence Minister Ishwor Pokharel draping his body with the national flag. His mortal remains were consigned to ashes at the electric crematorium.
Wife Madhu Devkota Dixit, daughters Megha, Basudha and Manjari made a symbolic lighting of the funeral pyre before the mortal remains of Dr Devkota were put into the incinerator.
Dr Devkota, who was suffering from gallbladder cancer, died at Bansbari-based Neuro Hospital at 5:35 pm on Monday. He was 63. Dr Devkota’s body was kept at the hospital premises from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm today for those wishing to offer their last tributes to him before his mortal remains to Pashupati Aryaghat. Hundreds of people from various walks of life reached the hospital to pay their last tribute to Dr Devkota. RSS
