Former top cop Bohara slapped 18 months imprisonment

N24, KATHMANDU: Former Chief of Nepal Police Moti Lal Bohara has been sentenced to 18 months jail by the Special Court on Tuesday.

Along with the said imprisonment sentence, the court has slapped an additional fine of Rs 2.683 million to Bohara.

Bohara has been accused of amassing Rs 23.8 million that is disproprionate to his income by abusing his powers while holding the chief post at Nepal police.

National watchdog had pinned down charges against Bohara but however he was given a clean chit by the same court earlier in 2007.

The case was overturned by the Supreme Court in Novmber last year and the Special Court was once again asked to deliberate allegations against Bohara.

Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi and Justice Kalyan Shrestha had turned down the verdict last year and asked the Special court to review the case again.
