Footballers get clean chit on match fixing charge

KATHMANDU: The special court on Thursday gave clean chit to then captain of national football team Sagar Thapa and five others on charge of match fixing.
Chairman of Special Court Judge Baburam Regmi, Judge Pramod Kumar Shrestha Baidhya and Judge Narayan Prasad Pokharel gave a clean chit on the charge of crime against State.
Other acquitted were Bikash Singh Chhetri, Ritesh Thapa, Sandip Rai, coach Anjan KC and Physiotherapist Devid Thapa.
Case against them was lodged in November 2015 at the special court, seeking maximum punishment against them on charge of crime against the State.
The Metropolitan Police Crime Division had forwarded the investigations on charge of match fixing in 22 international tournaments since 2008.
