Fishering gaining popularity in Kailali
Kailali (Attariya): An increasing number of farmers are taking to fishery in Kailali district these days. As the result of the growing interest among the farmers to fishery, fisheries now cover over one thousand hectares in the district.
Fish are reared in natural and artificial lakes and ponds on an area of 1,012 hectares in the district, stated the District Agricultural Development Office (DADO), Kailali.
Chief of DADO Khagendra Prasad Sharma said fish are reared in 878 hectares area out of the 1,011 hectares area covered by 193 artificial ponds. Similarly, fish are reared in 1,181 ponds covering an area of 134 hectares in private homes in Kailali district.
Sharma said 300 metric tonnes of fish is produced per hectare and the annual production is 1,600 metric tonnes from both natural and artificial lakes and ponds. RSS
