KATHMANDU: The visiting delegation of the European Union (EU) called on Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai at his office this morning. The three-member delegation led by Voirel Isticioaja- Budura, Managing Director for Asia and Pacific of the European External Action Service, is on an official visit of Nepal for holding political consultations.
During the meeting, the EU team suggested to the Prime Minister to complete all works related to the peace and constitution within May 27.
Budura said her team stressed the need of constituting the peace and reconciliation commission and not to make provisions of granting blanket amnesty.
“It would be easier to bring in investment with the establishment of peace in the context of the investment year,” Budura said, pledging continued EU support for the country’s socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, the prime minister’s media advisor Ram Rijhan Yadav said during the meeting Prime Minister Bhattarai urged the EU delegation for increased investment by the EU member countries in agriculture, hydroelectricity and tourism sectors in Nepal.
The delegation lauded the prime minister saying the discharge of the Maoist former PLA combatants opting for voluntary retirement and the evacuation of the 13 camps were an important step for the peace process. It also called for a quick end to the transition with the political parties reaching an agreement, Yadav said. RSS
