Dr lays foundation stone of Repulic memorial at Naryanhiti

Kathmandu, March 27: A Statue of Republic is being built at the premises of Narayanhiti Durbar, the former palace of the monarchs.

The Ministry of Physical Planning and Works is going to construct the statue in the east corner of the Narayanhiti Museum.

Earlier, the Council of Minister on March 16 had decided to build the Statue of Republic inside the Narayanhiti Durbar.

Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai laid a foundation stone of the statue amidst a function on Tuesday in Narayanhiti Durbar.

Department of Urban Development and Building Construction has already prepared the format and concept of the statue through national-level bidding.

According to the Department, the statue will be constructed based on the international style, standards and structures within three years with the investment of Rs 460 million. The statue will cover 42 ropani of land.

The Statue of Republic will commemorate the sacrifices made by the people in different movements for the establishment of republic and progressive changes in the country.

On the occasion, sketches of four different pillars carrying separate meaning were demonstrated.

It is proposed that the centers of all four pillars will be decorated with country’s map and the statue will be 12 meters high, according to the officials of department.

Similarly, construction of a big hall accommodating as high as 300 persons at a single time and an attractive garden are also proposed.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister termed this moment as a historic one. “End of the monarch and establishment of the republic is a historical aspect for this generation,” Dr Bhattarai said. RSS
