Discussion held on amendment of Media Council Bill
KATHMANDU: The Sub-Committee formed by Legislation Committee of the National Assembly and Federation of Nepali Journalists (NFJ) on Wednesday held clause-wise discussion on the proposed ‘Nepal Media Council Bill 2075’ for amendment.
On the occasion, lawmaker Thagendra Prakash Puri said that the sub-committee would take FNJ’s suggestions seriously and suggestions of bodies concerned would be collected until amendment points are passed.
Saying enough discussion should be held with stakeholders before passing the bill, lawmaker Haricharan Shiwakoti said that the sub-committee was making efforts to bring the bill in favour of entire press sector.
Similarly, another lawmaker Brishesh Chanda Lal said that the bill would be brought making it in favour of the journalists.
Presenting 11-point suggestion for amendment of the bill on the behalf of the FNJ, FNJ Chairperson Govinda Acharya suggested to formulate the bill making Council as the representation of intellectuals.
Acharya expressed the view that Council should be in favour of all journalists and media sector.
Likewise, FNJ Central Committee member Janmadev Jaisi and outgoing vice-chairperson of FNJ, Anita Bindu said that Council should be established as a powerful body in a legal manner.
