Constitution has to be promulgated: Paudel
BUTWAL, April 4: Politburo member of the UCPN-Maoist and Prime Minister’s political advisor, Devendra Paudel has said that there is risk of the nation being trapped into anarchy if the constitution was not promulgated in the slated time.
Paudel said though some forces were working to obstruct the promulgation of the new constitution, peace process and constitution were close to conclusion soon.
He added that the constitution has to be promulgated through consensus within May 27.
At an interaction programme organized by Lumbini branch of the Reporters’ Club Nepal here today, Paudel said integration of the PLA combatants will be concluded by April 12.
Paudel argued that the remaining issues on army integration would be sorted out by the political parties as they are close to reaching agreement on various contentious issues.
He claimed that the topic of army integration would be finalised by April 12 since PLA combatants opting for voluntary retirement have been discharged and the process of forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was underway.
The Maoist leader said his party, the UCPN (Maoist) was working to draw up an anti- colonial and anti-feudalist federal constitution with the representation of different ethnic groups and castes, but not a racial constitution.
Paudel said it was his party’s stance that the President should not be dictatorial, pointing out that debate was underway regarding adopting a presidential system accountable to the people.
He criticized some leaders in his party who he said were working to topple the government led by own party, terming it as against the Marxist principles. RSS
