Congress, UML to request Prez for deadline extension
The main opposition parties- Nepali Congress and CPN (UML)- have decided to request President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to extend the deadline for the formation of national consensus government. President Dr Yadav had made a call on Friday to the political parties to recommend the Prime Minister of national consensus within 7 days which is going to expire tomorrow.
A joint meeting of the Congress and the UML held today at the UML’s central office Balkhu has concluded to make a request to the President Dr Yadav formally by meeting him if national consensus couldn’t be forged by tomorrow.
“The deadline is going to be expired tomorrow and we are making efforts to meet the deadline. If the consensus couldn’t be forged by tomorrow, we will request President to extend it during our meet with him,” Congress Vice-president Ramchandra Poudel informed media persons.
Though the parties have intensified the consultations and parleys for forging consensus with approaching deadline of the President, such consensus seems elusive as both the ruling and opposition alliance are staking their claims for the leadership of the national consensus government.
