Congress rules out possibility of consensus govt under PM Dr Bhattarai
Nepali Congress has ruled out the possibility of the formation of a national consensus government under the leadership of the incumbent prime minister.
A meeting of the party office bearers and central members that took place at party President Sushil Koirala’s residence at Maharajgunj today, expressed concern over the public statement by the UCPN ( Maoist) that an environment is being created in favour of Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai for the constitution of a consensus government.
Talking to media persons following the meeting, leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat refuted the possibility of the formation of a national unity government under the leadership of Dr Bhattarai.
During the meeting, the leaders present said that the leadership of UCPN (Maoist) for a consensus government would not be accepted.
Earlier today, NC President Koirala had a meeting with UCPN ( Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice Chairman and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and discussed about the political crisis in the country and stressed on the need of formation of a national unity government to end such crisis.
“If UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal asks for a name of the prime ministerial candidate from the Congress, the party could do it within an hour”, Mahat claimed.
