Congress opposes CA extension Bill; pressure to quit government

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress, the second largest party in Nepal, has opposed the bill seeking the fifth extension for the Constituent Assembly.

A unofficial meeting of the party’s office bearers held at the party president’s resident on Wednesday took such a decision after concluding that the Maoists had decided to extend the CA term unilaterally without consulting other parties.

Central Committee member Arjun Narsingh KC, claimed that his party has decided to oppose the decision taken by the Maoists unilaterally without consulting them.

The meeting also concluded that the constitution should be drafted within May 27 by resolving all disputes seen in the constitution writing process.

Most of the participants pressurized the party leadership to quit from the government. KC claimed that the party will quit the government if the government pushed the CA extension bill.

He further informed that the Central Committee of the party is called at 4 pm today to finalize the party’s stand on the issue.
