Citizen’s call for integrated Lumbini province
LUMBINI: Citizen Campaign for Lumbini Province, Lumbini has called for establishing an integrated Lumbini province while carrying out the state restructuring. It has also demanded that the province be named after Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, and that its provincial capital be kept at Rupandehi itself.
This demand was put forth at an interaction titled ‘Our Unified Campaign: Lumbini’s Meaningful Identity’ organised by the Campaign here on Friday.
The participants of the interaction decided to wage phase-wise protest movements to press the political parties, the Constituent Assembly and the country’s leadership for addressing their demand.
At the interaction, the speakers said that the Lumbini area, an area known all over the world for its historic, archaeological and cultural heritage, has been completely ignored by the related committees of the Constituent Assembly and the political parties while drawing up their plans for carrying out state restructuring.
The Campaign stated that the delineation of the federal provinces being carried out in the name of the state restructuring was not done in a realistic manner and also underlined the need for waging a protest movement against this. It said a vigorous movement would be waged for establishing an integrated Lumbini province. RSS
