Changes sweep Lord Pashupatinath Shrine as never before
N24, KATHMANDU: Making a sweeping departure, priests at Lord Pashupatinath Shrine have removed the shroud of secrecy over offerings from devotees.
With the latest development, daily income recorded has started coming to light, thanks the change that have set in for the first time since centuries.
The income used to be grabbed by priests and temple storekeepers, who have acquired an image of local mafia.
Sunday saw authorities disclosing Rs 185,000 as income which adds up to Rs 25 million a year on average of course. Saturdays and Mondays attract hordes of visitors.
“We have set an example,” Gopal Kirati, Minister of Culture, said. He was of the view that the latest policy could be a precept for others temples authorities.
With this, those presiding will be on salary that can add up to Rs 20 million while the rest will go to fund projects run by temple. Standing on the banks of Bagmati river, the temple is 1500 years old.
