Cases of bird flu detected in Capital
KATHMANDU: The Directorate of Animal Health has confirmed that cases of bird flu (avian influenza) have been detected in Nayapati VDC of Kathmandu.
Spokesperson of the directorate Narayan Ghimire informed that bird flu cases have been found at a poultry farm owned by Narayan Dahal.
Team from the Department of Livestock Service is culling chickens and destroying poultry feed at the farm.
Dahal added that farm owners have raised concerns over compensation for the fowl, and talks are underway to resolve the issue.
Bird flu cases were last reported in Rampur area of Kathmandu in December. Officials had stepped up vigil on poultry farms throughout the Valley following the report. The price of chicken has gone up in the Capital in recent days following reports of bird flu in the Capital.
