CA dissolved by status quoist forces: PM

KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai observed a special event organized at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel in the capital today to mark the 5th Republic Day-2012.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai said that country people should feel proud for the republic though the constitution writing process shadowed this historic day–achieved through various struggles and contributions.

The Prime Minister expressed dissatisfaction saying that people’s aspiration of new constitution was aborted due to power games during the four-year term of the Constituent Assembly though people had given mandate to draft the new constitution.

The Prime Minister said, “Parties’ failure to draft a constitution in four years was a very disappointing political incident in the country’s history. There is no alternative to move ahead to the direction of economic prosperity by maintaining lasting peace in the country remaining all parties united by forgetting the weaknesses, misunderstanding and mutual bitterness of the past.”

Country’s main agenda was economic prosperity and the government was effortful in this regard, the PM said, adding that all should work hard to address the people’s expectations by concluding the challenges of the political transition.

Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai also urged the country people to make the proposed CA elections a success on November 22, 2012 and urged the main political parties to come together to strengthen national unity by maintaining social harmony, and peace and security.

Also present at the function were Vice-President Parmanand Jha, Chief Justice Khilaraj Regmi, high-ranking army and police officials, civil servants and representatives of the diplomatic missions.

On the occasion, a banner reading the Republic Day -2069 B.S. was displayed and flowers showered from two helicopters, while the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Scouts performed the march-past.

Similarly, pageantries were displayed by departments of different ministries related to development.

On the occasion, President Yadav distributed prizes and certificates to the winners and first runner ups of the ‘awareness raising folk duet song’ organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Radio Nepal and also observed different cultural programmes, dances and sports.

A team of Krishna Reule and Asmi Thapa of the National Folk and Duet Academy was the winner of the awareness raising folk duet song competition. RSS
