BKG says no options other than to hold CA elections
KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Democratic), Bijay Kumar Gachchadar claimed that currently there was no constitutional alternative to holding fresh elections of the Constituent Assembly (CA).
Speaking at a press conference organized at the MJF-D party office, Sanepa, he reiterated the need to go for CA elections by forming the national consensus government under the leadership of incumbent Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai.
Deputy Prime Minister Gachchhadar claimed the announcement of CA election for November 22 was the move to prevent the nation from sliding into constitutional vacuum at the eleventh hour, arguing the political parties having conviction in democratic system should not fear to go for people’s mandate.
Gachchhadar, who is also the chairperson of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) – one of the major political forces in the recently dissolved CA – admitted that the Front also held responsibility for the dissolution of the CA while asserting the UDMF had restrained flexibility till the last moment for promulgating new constitution.
He said the UDMF had played intermediary role to convince the Unified CPN (Maoist) and the Nepali Congress to adopt mixed system with regard to the forms of governance, however the Front could not agree upon the proposal to carve out 11 provinces without name and identity. RSS
