Big parties’ meeting inconclusive

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the big political parties, including the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), ended inconclusively on Thursday.

The meeting of the UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the UDMF held at Constituent Assembly building, New Baneshwor, failed to reach consensus on the naming and demarcation of the provinces, according to Vice-President of the Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel.

He said the consensus eluded after the Maoists floated diverse proposals.

Similarly, UCPN-Maoist leader Khim Lal Devkota said the parties had two-party and three-party discussions time and again but could not decide on restructuring of state.

It took long time because there were many issues to be sorted out on form of governance and restructuring of state, he added.

UDMF leader Rajendra Mahato said more discussion was needed on the restructuring of state and form of governance. RSS

Development will have to wait for new constitution
