Baidya turning heat on Prachanda by the day

N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU: Mohan Baidya has formed a five-member team to bolster unity in the faction led by him in the UCPN-Maoist.

However the names have been kept secret to ensure that they are not stolen by Prachanda led faction.

The faction has already deployed its leaders to districts and party’s State Committees to form parallel structures in what indicates at growing rift in the UCPN-Maoist.

However the members are General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa, Secretary CP Gajurel, Standing Committee members Dev Gurung and Netra Bikram Chand. According to leaders,

Three of the members belong to the hard-line faction. Central Committee member Bharat Bam, loyal to Baidya, confessed that they have formed a five-member “core team” to chalk out the party’s future strategy.

Another Baidya faction leader claimed that formation of the core team was part of preparations for forming a new party.

The team has on Saturday discussed agreement forged among political parties on Friday about moving the integration process forward. It interpreted the agreement as their party’s surrendering its policy.

They also discussed about forming parallel bodies of students, workers, and women, among many others. The hardliners are busy forming parallel organisational structures to implement their political line of revolt.

Though the hardliners are in no mood to split before May 27, the extended deadline of the Constituent Assembly, the faction is functioning as a separate party with its own policy and organisational structures.

Even though the Baidya faction is functioning as a party within party, leaders rule out the possibility of a split before May 27.

“Prachanda needs a united party to bargain with the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML while we also need a whole party to launch a struggle from the streets,” said politburo member Hari Bhakta Kandel, close to Baidya.
