Appointment letter is not a prerequisite in Kailali

DHANGADI: As many as 2,068 workers in different industries in the Far-west region have not been given appointment letters by their employers.

The labour office here stated that the employers have not given appointment letters to as many workers in disregard of the provision in the Labour Act, 2049 which states that no worker shall be employed without providing appointment letter.

According to the provision made in the Labour Act, appointment letters should be given to any worker working for 240 days in an industrial enterprise.

As per a study conducted by the local labour office in some 100 big and small enterprises in the Far-west region, although the workers have not been given appointment letters they have been getting their remuneration as per the Labour Act.
Jayadev Bista, an official at the local labour office, said workers working eight hours daily have been getting Rs. 231 per day or Rs. 6,200 per month.

Kailali and Kanchanpur districts in the Far-west region have more industries while the remaining seven districts in the hilly region have very few industries. RSS
