A frustrated Maoist Vice Chairman said: Constitution not possible anymore
KATHMANDU: UCPN Maoist Vice Chairman Naryan Kaji Shrestha broke into fit of anger on Saturday after attending the lead-party meeting and exclaimed that the possibility of dissolving the Constituent Assembly without drafting the new constitution has grown dominant.
While fuming at the Congress and UML, Shrestha accused both parties of not neither showing flexibility on disputed issues and nor agreeing to resolve those issues through majority based voting in the CA. Claiming that both parties presented themselves in an utterly autocratic manner, Sherstha ruled out the possibility of promulgating the new constitution in such status quo.
Accusing both parties of not heeding and understanding the demand of the time, he informed that both parties foiled efforts to garner consensus on disputed issues by not showing willingness to accept the recommendations made by the CA’s thematic committee and the high level commission on state restructuring.
“ At a time when they should be centering on resolving disputes seen in the new constitution, they have centered on toppling the government,” Shrestha said alluding to the efforts carried out by Congress, UML, and Baidya faction to topple the government on Saturday morning.
He further claimed that the unwillingness shown by both parties to resolve disputes through voting was due to th recent support given to the unitary-ethnic federalism agenda by over two third majority of lawmakers.
