73 lawyers became senior Advocate

KATHMANDU: The full bench of Supreme Court on Friday decided to confer the title of senior advocate on 73 lawyers including Attorney General Mukti Narayan Pradhan.

Former Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly Subas Chandra Nembang, former CA members Agni Kharel and Sapana Malla and former Chairman of Nepal Bar Association Prem Bahadur Khadka among others received the title.

A panel of justices Damodar Prasad Sharma, Girish Chandra Lal and Sushila Karki recommended the names of the lawyers based on their performance in justice dispensation and upholding the dignity of the apex court and rule of law.

As per the cut-off date, only advocates who have been practicing before April 12, 1988 are eligible for the title of senior advocate.

Attorney General Pradhan is criticized for giving order to halt the investigation of the murder of Dailekh based journalist Dekendra Thapa during the period of armed insurgency.
