5,000 civil servants opt for VRS

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of General Administration has started the collection of applications by the government officials opting for voluntary retirement system (VRS).
The Ministry has begun to collect the applications from district-based offices and its line agencies, chief of the VRS Unit of the Ministry Dharma Raj Rokaya said.
The civil servants have lodged their applications seeking VRS as the government unveiled the plan for the VRS for the officials of the civil service, parliament and health service with the implementation of the federalism.
The government employees reluctant to be adjusted in the Central, Province and local levels had submitted their applications till February 25.
Rokaya said that the offices concerned were directed to send the applications of the VRS to District Administration Offices till Sunday while the District Administration Offices to send the applications in the VRS unit by March 10.
As per the government decision, the civil servants of 50 plus in age and 20 years in the services were eligible to apply for the VRS, and the officials would collect the pension of seven years in total.
It is said that around 5,000 government officials including three secretaries have lodged their applications for the VRS.
Secretary at the Ministry of Land Reforms and Management Shambhu Koirala and Secretaries of the Legislature Parliament Secretariat Himnath Subedi and Birendra Karki have also chosen the VRS. RSS
