2556th Buddha Jayanti Celebrated in LA

N24 Correspondent, Los Angeles, CA: Everybody present at this auspicious event at beautiful Claremont Lincoln University Mudd Theatre, was so proud to present Lord Buddha, from Nepal. More than 250 enthusiastic community members, children, bhikshunis, bhikshus, intellectuals, Shree Pashupatinath Foundation, USA TEAM members, other members from S. California Nepalese Organizations, musicians, dancers participated the program.

There were: inspiring speeches, presentations, videos to promote Nepal to those who were not aware that “Lord Buddha was born in Nepal”. With many attractive and knowledge based presentations, there was not one boring moment and everybody was very excited to be part of this “Historical Event” in Southern California.

The program was organized by Shree Pashupatinath Foundation, USA in association with : Indic Foundation, Claremont Lincoln University, Friends of Nepal – Los Angeles, Nepal America Ekata Samaj, America Nepal Society of California, Los Angeles Gurung Society, Anaheim Pariwar and Jana Samparka Samiti, Los Angeles.

Shree Pashupatinath Foundation USA has a mission of : building Nepali Community Center, Lord Pashupatinath Temple and Lord Buddha Stupa in Southern California. Since its inception in 2009, SPFU has done various activities and was able to raise over ONE MILLION U.S. Dollars during Mahapurana in July, 2011.

The program started with welcome speeches by Dr. Deepak Shimkhada (SPFU Board Advisor and President of Indic Foundation), followed by Dr. Philip Clayton (Provost, Claremont Lincoln University) and Mr. Gokul Poudyal (First V.P. of Shree Pashupatinath Foundation, USA).
Lama Geshe Norbu from Geden Shoeling Buddhist Center and other Bhikshus representing Buddhist Temple of America, did prayer after the welcome speech.

There was presentation by Dr. Deepak Shimkhada about “Lumbini, The Birth Place of the Buddha” and a short film, “Life of Buddha.”
Mr. Prem Guragain, General Secretary of Shree Pashupatinath Foundation, USA presented a video about the MISSION, activities, financial details of the Foundation.

After this, there were dances by Mamta Upadhyaya, Bindu Tamang, Garima Poudyal, Anusha Karki and many other talented dancers who entertained the public and there was a great support by the audiences to the artists.
During the program, Mr. Bhim Dhakal & Mrs. Saraswoti Dhakal (representing “Dhakal Brothers”), presented a beautiful signboard to Shree Pashupatinath Foundation,USA.

Senior Nepali Tabla player Homnath Upadhyaya and renowned Sitar player (disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar) Paul Livingstone won the heart of the audiences with their electrifying performance.

Dr. Deepak Shimkhada, handed over the “Certificate of Appreciation” to all the artists, bhikshus, bhikshunis, musicians and other volunteers. Also, he presented a certificate to Mr. Prem Guragain, General Secretary of SPFU, for his many contributions to make this event successful.
Bikshuni Lozang Trinlae spoke about Nepal and how beautiful the country is, especially about Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. She had been to Nepal many times and loves Nepal.

Finally, Mr. Ram Lama, the coordinator of “Buddha Jayanti 2012 Organizing Comiitee”, thanked everybody and handed over Special Plaque to Mr. Prem Guragain for his “Outstanding Contribution to the Success of this event.”

The program was emceed by Mr. Rajendra Siwakoti, Secretary of Shree Pashupatinath Foundation, USA.

There was a simple vegetarian dinner served at the cafeteria after the program.

People were very happy, excited and went home with the “Great Feeling of Pride”, knowing that Nepalese community has done this historical work because of the UNITED effort from all community members.

Once again, Southern Californians proved: UNITED WE STAND.
