18 VDCs in Dailekh face food grains shortage
DAILEKH: Eighteen VDCs in Dailekh district are at the risk of food grains shortage in terms of the production of food grains. Rum, Kansikandh, Katti, Jabamukandh, Katti, Chamunda, Mehaltoli, among other VDCs in the district have problems of food grains supply, according to statistics of the District Agricultural Development office, Dailekh.
The Agricultural Research Center said there is now a shortage of 3,390 metric tons of food grains in the district where there are 55 VDCs and one municipality.
It is said that production of food grains has been decreased due to use of traditional seeds by farmers, climate change and price hike of petroleum products.
There is also the possibility of consumption of food grains produced in the district in other districts if cultivation could be done by using improved seeds on the basis of geographical condition and research, said the Center.
According to Chief District Officer, Basudev Dahal, special attention should be given for the publicity of improved seeds produced in the district and the body concerned should be more alert as there is more food insecurity in the district though there are more possible areas for food production.
Agro scientist Tul Bahadur Pun says that although the district has tremendous bio-diversity and production of food grains, problems has arisen from its smuggling and ineffective management. RSS
