15 years in Japanese jail, Mainali at last returns home

KATHMANDU: Govinda Mainali, who had to serve 15 years in Japanese prison for faulty judgement, arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Mainali was acquitted of murder charges previously leveled and proven against him recently which paved way for another hearing.

Mainali, his wife and two daughters were welcomed at the TIA on Saturday by his relatives who had almost lost hopes of his return.

The event was covered by all national, and international medias.

Mainai was convicted of raping and murdering Wasukowataniko, his next door neighbor. However his family and some NRN groups in Japan had moved the Japanese court seeking a DNA Test and retrial.

The DNA tests which were performed 42 times in a row confirmed that Mainali was involved in raping, killing or looting the victim.

Chnadrakala Mainali, his mother, had herself gone to the airport to receive her son.

It has been learnt that Mainali will share his experiences about his jail life in Japan during a press meet slated at 5 pm today.
