UML sets norms to recommend National Assembly poll candidates
KATHMANDU: A meeting of the CPN (UML) central secretariat has prepared the standards and procedures for recommending candidates for the February 7 National Assembly elections.
According to the standards and procedures, the candidate selection will be in line with Article 87 of the Constitution of Nepal and the candidates must meet criteria required by the Article.
Those having association with the UML and contributing to the party itself as a whole and social work, culture, arts, literature, science and technology will be prioritised by geographical and social balance, it is said.
Likewise, those experts in various subjects who are not elected as the members of parliament, provincial and local governments, and are excluded from the proportional representation list, will also be put in the priority list.
A meeting of the secretariat of the provincial organisation committee will recommend the candidates for the polls before sending it to the central office within January 19 for final endorsement, said a press release issued by Secretary of the Central Secretariat Pradip Gyawali. The UML will team up with the CPN (Maoist Centre) for the elections. RSS
