ANNFSU, ANNISU(R) demand withdrawal of petro price hike

KATHMANDU: Two students unions– All Nepal National Free Students Union and All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary)–have expressed their concern over the fresh hike in the prices of petroleum products.

The student unions close to the leftist parties have accused the Nepali Congress-led government of raising the price of petroleum products against the people’s expectation in the context when as they claimed left alliance is being welcomed by the increasing public support in the elections.
“The decision of increasing fuel prices when the vote count is underway is itself the demonstration of undemocratic character.”
In a joint press statement Saturday, ANNISU (R) general secretary Uttam Adhikari and ANNFSU general secretary Ain Mahar demanded the government withdraw its decision to increase the prices of petroleum products and cooking gas.
The Nepal Oil Corporation, the State body to deal with the business of petro products, hiked the price of cooking gas by Rs 25 per cylinder, the price of petrol by Rs 2 per liter, Rs 3 in diesel and kerosene and Rs 5 in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for domestic flights effective from Friday, citing adjustment of the price commensurate with the international market price.
