18th Pigeon Flying Competition held
BHAKTAPUR: The 18th edition of Pigeon Flying Competition was held in Bhaktapur on Saturday.
Altogether 37 pigeon keepers from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kavre had participated in the event organized by Nepal Pigeon Flying Sports Association.
Kathmandu’s pigeon keeper Gorakh Shumsher Rana’s pigeon stood first by flying the longest time. Rana’s five pigeons had spent 28 hours eight minutes in air while Kathmandu’s Rabindra Maharjan’s pigeons flew for altogether 21 hours 43 minutes and clinched second position.
Likewise, Kathmandu’s Pushpa Maharjan’s pigeons, which spend 21 hours and 31 minutes in the sky, bagged third position.
The tournament last through two months. The first winner took home award carrying a purse of Rs 400,000.
National Sports Council member secretary Keshav Kumar Bista distributed the award to the winners.
Pigeons of various breed such as Tauke, Chini, Tuniya, Kasni, Kavara, among others had vied in the tournament. RSS
